What are Communities of Practice (CoPs)?

Communities of Practice act as groups of people who share a concern or passion for something they do and they learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.

The three characteristics below are vital to a community of practice:

  1. The Domain
  2. The Community
  3. The Practice

Examples:

a tribe learning to survive, a group of engineers working on similar problems, a clique of pupils defining their identity in the school, a network of surgeons exploring novel techniques etc.
