My name is Michelle O’ Keeffe, a PhD student and part time researcher in the Nimbus Centre at the Cork Institute of Technology in Ireland. As part of my PhD research I am looking to ‘Explore the role communities of practice and UMI technlogies can play to support and enhance STEM learning’. My PhD will last for four years (started in 2016) and will be completed as part of the Horizon 2020 UMI-SCI-ED Project which looks at exploiting UMI Technologies to promote STEM Education and make scientific careers attractive to young people. My contribution to the project is to research what these UMI technologies may be; how to stimulate a students learning of STEM subjects through these subjects and the use of communities of practice and to explore how to build an engineer a successful community of practice for the purpose of teaching and learning for student, teachers and other STEM stakeholders. I am also a past First Class Honours Graduate of BA Honours in Multimedia at Cork Institute of Technology, graduating in October 2015.
